Physicians represent the pinnacle of training, expertise, and competence within the healthcare system. Without them, patient care loses direction and becomes a dangerous game of chance with only the most dire of consequences. Despite this, physicians and surgeons our forced to deliver care within a myriad of competing interests vying for a greater cut of the limited dollars and influence within the system. It is important to remember, that amongst all these stakeholders, the physician is the only one whose loyalty is sworn to the central element of the healthcare delivery system: the patient. It is thus imperative that the physician be placed at the pinnacle of the decision-making and design of each patient’s treatment.

A healthcare system absent a physician at its helm is like a ship devoid of its captain. Inexplicably, this is exactly what policymakers have allowed to transpire.

Under the guidance of the doctors at the United States Medical Association, USMA Action will work to rectify this circumstance and once again restore a proper balance within our healthcare delivery system.
